In 2008, Dr. Jocelyn Hellig graduated first in her class after completing her MBChB at the University of Cape Town. Following a two-year internship at McCord Hospital in Durban, she went to Cape Town for her community service training at the former GF Jooste hospital in Mannenberg, where she developed a passion for the difficulties of internal medicine. Following the completion of her community service, Jocelyn then decided to pursue a profession in internal medicine. She began training as a registrar at Tygerberg Hospital in 2012 and earned her degree there in 2015. She held the position of vice-chairperson of the registrar committee for two years, and she had a particular passion for teaching undergraduates. She finished her internal medical degree and immediately began her fellowship study. As a fellow, she discovered a passion for educating graduate students and for enhancing the provision of healthcare in settings with limited resources. Late in 2017, Jocelyn received her endocrinology cum laude certificate. In addition to publishing on diabetes in two regional journals, she has presented her own research at regional conferences. She is a member of SEMDSA and NOFSA and maintains a close academic relationship with Tygerberg Hospital's endocrinology department. At Stellenbosch University, she is presently doing her MPhil on the connection between osteoporosis and distal radius fractures. Jocelyn is likely to be found in a coffee shop, exploring the Zeitz MOCAA, or making excessive amounts of food for friends when she is not working or studying.
