Opening of the Wood & Wind Exhibition with One Day to Go Business School Nelson Mandela University, 2nd Avenue, Summerstand, Wednesday, 8th June, 17:30 to 18: A project of the School of Visual and Performing Arts in the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences is called Wood & Wind. This multisensory collaborative intervention was created by musicians from the Music and Performing Arts department in response to the latest collection of sculptures created by Michael Roderick Wedderburn, a recent MA graduate in Visual Arts (@MRW Fine Arts). Wedderburn's most recent creation, which is aggressively produced in diverse native wood kinds from all over the continent and is inspired by myth, tradition, and folklore. Woodwind instrument players are given the chance to respond to the work by playing various musical arrangements that inspire them, while yet staying faithful to the artist's original inspiration for the piece. The term Wood & Wind refers to the multisensory experience created by pairing each musician with a piece of sculpture. In response to the Nelson Mandela University's call to revitalise the humanities, this collaboration aims to bring the school as a whole together by bringing in a variety of specialised fields, such as printmakers, photographers, graphic designers, sculptors, and musicians. By doing so, it hopes to demonstrate an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to creating collective meaning, which presents a variety of chances for students to acquire crucial work-integrated learning experiences across a range of visual and performing arts. From June 9 through June 20, 9 a.m. to 16 p.m. on weekdays, the public may view the exhibition.
