Strand is a seaside resort situated on the eastern end of False Bay and at the base on the Hottentots Mountains. In Afrikaans, it means a beach. It is situated between Macassar and Gordon's Bay. It is barely 50 km from Cape Town on the southeast. It is located in the Western Cape province. Its main attraction is the beach. It is spread over 5 km as a patch of white sandy beach off False Bay.

It is barely 50 km from Cape Town on the southeast. It is located in the Western Cape province. Its main attraction is the beach. It is spread over 5 km as a patch of white sandy beach off False Bay.
It dates back to 1714 when it came into existence as a holiday and fishing resort. During its not-so-glorious history, it became a white-only resort and all black, coloured and Asian people were driven out in the Apartheid age. While descendants of Cape Malay slaves were also asked to leave, their mosque is still in existence.
Strand is a part of the City of Cape Town municipality. It is closer to Somerset West. With rapid expansion, it has brought the two towns further closer. The N2 is what divides them. The white-sanded beaches are the main attraction of Strand. The beaches provide such amazing experience that tourists from different parts of South Africa and abroad visit Strand during the summer. Melkbaai Beach is the main beach in the Strand. It is known as one of the best and safest places to explore the sea waters. Waterworld with a super tube and mini golf and Harmony Park that includes a tidal pool are some of the other facilities around.
With a golf course, tennis courts, rugby fields, squash clubs, jukskei and water sports like surfing, sailing, power boating, paddle skiing and board sailing, it's a tourist's paradise. Surfers can capitalize on a part called the Pipe reserved only for surfers. It is known for its big surfable waves.
There is a big indoor pool that conforms to the size of an Olympic pool. It is centrally heated and open all throughout the year. Fishermen and rock anglers love the coast between the Lourens River and Rooi Els.
It has Central Business District. The town is a hub of a lot of economic and commercial activities. There are banks, shopping malls, restaurants and supermarkets. The Friedman & Cohen is the biggest shop in the CBD and is a great resource for residents and visitors. Dorpsmeent Centre and Somerset Mall are the major shopping malls in the area. Gants Centre is its own industrial area. There are some non-industrial businesses too.
Kays Caravan Park, Voortrekker Park, Cheetah Outreach etc. are tourist attractions worth exploring. Strand Square, Friedman & Cohen, House of Crystal, and The Sanctuary Shopping Centre are popular shopping centres in the area. Ocean Basket, Ben's on the Beach, Rooibos Restaurant offer a wide variety of delicious food.
As far as educational facilities are concerned, you can try out Loreto Primary School, False Bay High School / Hoërskool Valsbaai, Strand Secondary School, Hottentots-Holland High School etc.
Strand has plenty of suburbs you can bear in mind such as Gordons Bay, Harbour Island, Lwandle, Chris Nissen Park, Lourensrivier, Melkbaai, Strand-Noord, Suider Strand, Mostert's Bay, Strandvale and Goedehoop.
