Over the course of the last 50+ years, Tiger Wheel & Tyre has grown into the reputable name in automotive fitment and service excellence that so many people have come to rely on today. Jimmy Joannou, the company's original creator and a developing local entrepreneur, started a new firm after he returned from Canada in 1967. He did this by leveraging his newly learned ability to transform used rims into hand-made bespoke wheels. When he opened Tiger Speed Den, an accessory store, with his friend and business partner Dennis Cohen, this newfound hobby rapidly became successful. Tiger Speed Den subsequently moved to larger facilities on Mint Road in Fordsburg as the company grew, combining manufacturing with retail and spray-painting services. Eddie Keizan, a South African race car driver, acquired the business for R14,000 in 1972, less than ten years later. He later rose to the position of CEO of Tiger Wheel & Tyre, as it is now known.
