Play in all its forms benefits a child's brain, body, and life in significant ways. Children should be able to enjoy themselves and the simple joys of childhood. Our CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES largely shape how we approach life, deal with daily difficulties, make decisions, and handle stress and trauma. How we were raised as children and how we choose to raise our own families are so crucially important. But after having the honour of working with traumatised children and their families for more than 20 years, I can say with certainty that play is the universal language of children. It's how they develop the ability to integrate intensely emotional and physically taxing experiences. Through a variety of playful activities, awareness, movement, bodywork, and sensory play, FUNDAMENTAL PLAY THERAPY works to regulate the autonomic nervous system while gently supporting, guiding, and empowering our clients. Children are able to make sense of the injustices of life, daily struggles, and any abuse they may have experienced through PLAY and PLAY THERAPY. PLAYFULNESS IS HOW CHILDREN PROTECT THEMSELVES WHEN WE AS ADULTS FAIL TO DO SO. Anon. Our professional team at Fundamental Play Therapy attends to the unique needs of our young patients, adolescents, and adults, and we serve our clients with heart and soul. Mariska van der Meulen is my name. I provide trauma counselling in addition to marriage and relationship counselling. I chose the name Meraki because it resonates with me when I think about the encouraging, transparent counselling atmosphere where healing occurs. It's a Greek phrase that means to put yourself into your job; to do something with soul, creativity, or passion. This establishes the tone for a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where we may work together to find solutions and innovative, empowering approaches to challenges, traumas, and building a future that motivates you. Regardless of how challenging life may seem right now, together we can find the answers and make the changes you desire in your life. I genuinely feel that my life's work is to use therapy to support and aid people in a caring, nonjudgmental, and understanding environment. My greatest sense of accomplishment has always come from assisting others in overcoming obstacles. This desire prompted me to earn an honours degree in psychology from the University of Pretoria in 2004 after finishing my BLC LLB. For the past ten years, I have worked as a counsellor for an NGO, concentrating on marital and relationship counselling, individual counselling, and counselling connected to trauma. I have also furthered my enthusiasm and knowledge by taking important courses in couples therapy and trauma counselling. Since 2011, I have been teaching psychology modules on marriage counselling, sexual trauma, personology, and social psychology. I frequently conduct workshops or lectures on a range of topics, including how to cope with your teenager, manage stress, fix relationship problems, and more. I have a deeper understanding of my customers' experiences and difficulties because I am a wife and mother. As a Specialist Wellness Counsellor (SWC21/823), I am listed with the ASCHP.
