The lushness of highveld grasses, flowers, and trees so close to a city centre is exemplified by the Koppies' entirely native vegetation, which is a remarkable example. These ridges have had this appearance for many centuries. Melville Koppies CENTRAL is always locked and has CONTROLLED ACCESS ONLY for people on hikes or walks on Sundays between 8am and 11:30am. There is a dog ban. Everyday walks are available at Melville Koppies East, and well-behaved dogs are welcome there. Although Melville Koppies WEST is open every day, it's best to only walk on predetermined routes. As these are public open spaces, don't bring anything of value onto EAST or WEST.
