One of South Africa's oldest architectural associations, the Gauteng Institute for Architecture was first established in 1900 as the Transvaal Institute of Architects. We are a nonprofit organisation approved by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession and a member of the South African Institute of Architects. Our goal is to represent the needs of our members, advance a better built environment, and raise the profile of architecture. Professional architects make up the majority of our membership, together with affiliate members who are candidate architects, technologists, and draughtspeople headquartered in the Gauteng Region. We provide ongoing professional development courses on a variety of subjects, from heritage to professional practise, to our members and the general public. Through webinars, workshops, lectures, tours of famous structures, social gatherings, and exhibits, we accomplish this. Events are designed to give experts in the built environment, as well as pertinent suppliers and government agencies, a networking and marketing platform. The Gauteng Institute for Architecture supports the revitalization of inner cities. We work hard to serve both the public's information source and the profession's voice. By holding exhibitions in our office, we inform the public about the importance of architecture and its effects on the social and environmental landscape. The GIfA's primary goal is transformation, which is fueled through education and the promotion of the built environment professions. Our participation in architectural schools strives to strengthen ties between businesses and academic institutions. Every two years, we organise regional awards ceremonies to highlight Gauteng's top construction work. By promoting and representing all built environment professionals in Gauteng, GIfA seeks to reform and unify the profession. In order to further promote a unified vision of the city and to offer architectural expertise when needed, we have partnered with The City of Johannesburg and other local government entities.
